Breaking Point

Friday, March 27th, 2009

She has been a devoted wife for ten years and a responsible mother for the three children they have. At the strike of 4 am, she would get up from the bed, fix breakfast for his husband and children. After kissing her husband goodbye at 7am, she would drive her kids to school. Back at home, she would make the beds, wash the dishes they used for breakfast and start cleaning up the house. Then she would do the laundry while cooking lunch. After she put the laundry in the dryer, she would go to the grocery and do the shopping of all the things they need at home, toiletries and cooking needs and all. When she reach home she would tend the flowers in the garden and have the restroom sanitized and the carpet vacuumed. In the afternoon, she would fetch her children from school and fix some snacks while they watch tv.

When done with the snacks, she would cook dinner while ironing the laundry she did earlier. Just before dinner, she would bathe her children, feed them and send them to bed after helping them out in their homeworks. No sooner will her husband come home and they will have dinner together, she will wash the dishes while her husband sip a martini. Then her husband would ask her to go to bed and make love to her. It has been that way for years and that particular night she lie awake naked and a tear fell down her cheek. It has been her daily routine and her future routine as well. 4 am strikes and she got up, her body still sore but that’s alright, she has a mighty task for the day. She did what she had been doing for her family. She came home from the grocery at around 10am, she made the house spotless and immaculate clean. She had already pressed the clothes, and put the dinner in the fridge ready for heating when his family arrive. Everything was in place, everything was perfect. She stood at the center of the house and finally serenity came over her, it must be done. She should be free. She loved her family so much, she forgot herself, her identity as a woman. She just lived for her family. And now is the time to have a rest. She took one last look at the dustless house and pull the gun’s trigger on her head. Every thing was perfect.

Sometimes even though we have every thing on our finger tips we still crave for more. Maybe that is human nature, but the more we lean towards what we want, the lesser we pay attention to the things we already have.

Mothers

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

If there is something one cannot do without, it is mother. Father loves her, daughter imitates her, son ignores her, salesmen thrive on her, motorists hurry around her, teachers phone her, and the woman next door confides in her.

She can be sweeter than sugar, more sour than a lemon, all smiles, and crying her heart out - all within any given two-minute period.

She likes sewing, detective stories, having her birthday remembered, church, a new dress, the cleaning woman, father’s praise, a policeman, one whole day in bed, crossword puzzled, sunny days, tea, and the newspaper boy.

She dislike doing the dishes, father’s boss, having her birthday forgotten, the motorist behind her, spring cleaning, Junior’s report card, rainy days, the neighbor’s dog, stairs, and the man who was supposed to cut the grass.

She can be found standing by, bending over, reaching for, kneeling under, and stretching around, but rarely sitting on.

She has the beauty of a spring day, the patience of a saint, the appetite of a small bird, the memory of a large elephant.

She knows the lowest prices, everybody’s birthday, what you should be doing, and all your secret thoughts.

She is always straightening up after, reminding you to, and taking care of, but never asking for.

Yes, a mother is one thing that nobody can do without. And when you have harassed her, buffeted her about, tried her patience, and worn her out, and it seems that the end of the world is about to descend upon you, then you can win her back with four little words, “Mom, I love you.”
